Dear All
When I think of paedophiles, I think of Scotland’s worst.
Glasgow University and Scotland’s most-dangerous-sexual-predator and child rape planner Andrew Byrne.

Now, Police led by a UK team say they have broken up the largest internet paedophile ring yet discovered.
It had 70,000 members and links to 30 countries.
Police have arrested 184 people and of those 121 were in the UK.
The arrests follow a three year investigation called Operation Rescue, which was led by investigators from the UK's Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.
At a press conference at The Hague in the Netherlands, investigators said the network hid behind a legal online forum.
Along with the Netherlands and UK, suspects have been identified in Australia, Italy, Canada, New Zealand and Thailand.
The members of the network went into a private channel, boylover.net, and then used its secret systems to share films and images of abused children.
In 2004, at Glasgow University there was a scandal when Richard Yuill was contacting paedophiles.
Prior to attending Glasgow University, Richard Yuill was struck off the teaching register in 1999 for professional misconduct; he then gravitated towards Glasgow University. When Yuill’s activities came to light, the Glasgow University Management passed on information that allowed Yuill to alert the paedophiles he was in contact with. Yuill’s internet name was ‘boylover’.
Why did Glasgow University Management pass on information?
Not an unreasonable question given the people he was contacting, paedophiles.
Was this to sabotage their investigation?
And it isn’t the first time that they have deliberately sabotaged investigations.
Yuill when on to graduate and his thesis was hidden in the main university library for 5 years.
In a thesis people generally thank those who have helped him, who did Richard Yuill thank at Glasgow University?
Peter Davies, head of Ceop, said:
"The scale and success of Operation Rescue has broken new ground. Not only is it one of the largest operation of its kind to date - and the biggest operation we have led it also demonstrates the impact of international law enforcement agencies working together with one single objective to safeguard children and bring offenders to justice. While these offenders felt anonymous in some way because they were using the internet to communicate, the technology was actually being used against them. Everything they did online, everyone they talked to or anything they shared could and was tracked by following the digital footprint."
Today has been a good result for law enforcement.
As to Glasgow University and Scotland’s most-dangerous-sexual-predator and child rape planner Andrew Byrne, he is in a Scottish prison.
Where he belongs!
Yours sincerely

George,
I googled Andrew Byrne and was shocked by what he done. Well done for highlighting this. I don't think you will win any friends at Glasgow University for your post. I remember while at the university that there was a middle aged male Professor who used to target young men at the Stevie Building. When I went swimming there was also another man who when using the pool, would get out and follow others into the shower, before returning to the pool. The staff all knew what was going on but done nothing. I believe both men are still employed as academics.
Best regards,
Sandy

I know I'll probably be condemned for even saying this and yes I know what he did was horrible...but you don't know him. He was an amazing student and an amazing friend. Believe it or not he actually wanted to make a difference and to help improve peoples lives, that's why he wanted to work in a hospital. He just made a horrific mistake and he has been trying to better himself since he has been in prison. I will admit that I still see him and because he loves me, I still love him. We all deserve a second chance right?
Dear Anon
I have decided to publish your comment.
In my youth I met all sorts of people at Glasgow University, some of whom I wish I had never met.
As to your comments.
“I know I'll probably be condemned for even saying this and yes I know what he did was horrible...but you don't know him. He was an amazing student and an amazing friend”.
I think the concerns regarding your friend are either of those two issues regarding his ability to study or friendship he bestowed on others.
“Believe it or not he actually wanted to make a difference and to help improve peoples lives, that's why he wanted to work in a hospital”.
I think, given what he has done, he is now effectively and rightly barred from ever getting employment in a hospital or a similar situation.
“He just made a horrific mistake and he has been trying to better himself since he has been in prison”.
I am all for people doing that as I believe in reform, for their sake and society.
“I will admit that I still see him and because he loves me, I still love him. We all deserve a second chance right?”
Everyone deserves a second chance, but given the nature of his crimes, he will rightly be banned from ever going near children again, I would also point out to you, that it is reported that he wanted to help plan a rape. His tally was 32 crimes, including sex with three 13 year olds and a 14 year old. If you wish to be with him that is a personal choice, and I am all for allowing people to make their own choices; then live with them. Andrew deserves to be in prison for what he has done and for what he was prepared to do.
Yours sincerely
