California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signs decriminalisation law for Cannabis, ‘smart on crime’ finally beats ‘tough on crime’

Dear All

Everyone knows Arnold Schwarzenegger from being a movie star and body builder, his career and action films have given him a global image.

But Arnold Schwarzenegger is also a politician, as California Governor he has signed into law a bill that decriminalises the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana.

They say that when it happens in California, it happens in the US and then naturally it crosses the Atlantic and becomes mainstream thinking in Britain by politicians.

Criminalisation of drugs in Britain is interlinked with the ‘War on Crime’.

The ‘War on Crime’ is a war, it is phoney, out dated and serves no useful purpose, the decriminalisation of drugs is sorely needed as the first stage to a regulated market.

A regulated market means tax revenues and profits which can be used to plough money back into communities and infrastructure.

The California bill reduces simple possession of Cannabis from a misdemeanor to an infraction.

This means there is no possible jail sentence and a maximum $100 fine.

By taking this route the Courts aren’t getting clogged up which another additional side benefit of the California bill.

This is forward thinking

Under the bill signed today, SB 1449, by Sen. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), marijuana possession will be treated like a traffic ticket. The fine will remain at $100, and there will be no arrest record.

California NORML director Dale Gieringer said:

"Gov. Schwarzenegger deserves credit for sparing the state's taxpayers the cost of prosecuting minor pot offenders. Californians increasingly recognize that the war on marijuana is a waste of law enforcement resources."

And the same argument applies in Scotland.

It is a pity that Scottish politicians can’t recognise that change is sorely needed to their out dated thinking.

The only way to win the ‘war on drugs’ is to bankrupt the market and you can’t do this sitting on the sidelines.

You can only do it on the playing pitch.

Yours sincerely

Far too many children become the victims of abuse, neglect, or abandonment and
then sadly, often they become wards of the court who will eventually determine
their fate. I have more stuffings in me from yesterday than I care to
think about. If a person is connected with the latest headlines, it will develop an awareness
in him with regards to the world which surrounds him.
