Lib Dem MSP Willie Rennie ‘wins’ the leadership of the Lib Dems after no one else put their name forward, the ‘feeble five’ try to rebuild

Dear All

William Rennie has been appointed as the new leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

No one else wanted it!

You have to feel sorry for him, poison chalice.

The 'feeble five' at Holyrood have nothing to do which will change their fortunes while Nick Clegg is leader of their party.

Rennie has replaced Tavish Scott who blames the Westminster Coalition for his party destruction at the ballot box.

William Rennie was elected as an MSP for the first time in the 5 May Holyrood election.

Fast promotion to be sure!

The Lib Dems lost 11 seats in the Holyrood election, down from 16 to 5.

As the only candidate for the leadership, when nominations closed at noon, automatically became the leader.

Leading four others in the chamber but really, he is heading into the wilderness of Scottish politics.

As a former MP and UK government adviser, he has to try and rebuild the party after Scottish voters decided to punish the Lib Dems hard for their role in the UK coalition government.

The Lib Dems lost 25 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote in some areas on election night.

The prospects look entirely bleak for the near future as the coalition in London dominates minds as the cuts start to take effect.

People will be looking for someone to blame.

In the Council election 2012 they will have ready made offerings to politically sacrifice at the ballot box.

The Lib Dems might get wiped out at the local council election which would finish them as a credible party in Scotland.

Transferred to the ‘second division’ of political parties along with the Greens, Solidarity and the SSP, next stop after that oblivion!

First problem how to distance himself and the Scottish Lib Dems from Toxic Clegg?

You can’t build on quick sand!

Yours sincerely
