Dear All
Steven ‘bin laden’ Purcell has resigned his Labour Council seat in Blairdardie, Glasgow.
Like everyone else, I don’t know the full ins and outs of his particular situation but resignation seems a bit extreme.
As much as we all like to take the rip roaring piss out of each other politically, there are limits.
Some people in other blogs say that Purcell had a "cocaine problem" but he denies it.
Even if it was the case, he should have just gone off on the sick.
In the grand scheme of things, this wasn’t the end of the world.
There would have been some bad publicity but that’s the game, you take the hit for making an arse of yourself in public office.
Then you get up and brush the dust off.
And don’t do it again.
I feel he acted too hastily; a dramatic statement or gesture wasn’t required based on what is already out.
I have to say I am sorry he has gone.
I would have liked to seen him defeated at the ballot box on his record of neglect and privatisation of the City of Glasgow.
There is obviously more to this story to come out into the public domain.
Yours sincerely
