Labour Councillor Jonathan Findlay is the new broom at SPT, now the trains run slower, is he still sorting out his three wage packets?

Dear All

Fresh scandal hits the SPT as the frequency of trains on Glasgow’s subway is to be cut during off-peak periods.

One can only wonder if the Glasgow Labour Party hadn’t used the SPT as a cash cow and travel agent for Rangers matches whether they would have spent more time better managing the system.

It is another sorry tale of Labour’s incompetence to manage.

The latest twist may produce bitter fight with unions as they describe the proposals as the “economics of the madhouse”.

Eddie Duffy, regional organiser for Unite said they had lodged a grievance with SPT over the proposals and lack of consultation.

He said;

“There have been no discussions with the union about this; we only heard about it in the last few days. SPT are going back on their word. We have continually been told there will be no reduction in frontline services without prior discussion with the union”.

This puts further pressure on the Scottish Government to take the Glasgow Labour Party travel agent (SPT) and put it to the sword.

As usual with the Labour Party they have adopted a building site workie mentality of not thinking things through, short term thinking is the hallmark of the Glasgow Labour Party.

Sandra White, the SNP MSP said;

“Cutting the frequency of trains will drive people away. It will certainly not encourage people to come back. We need more trains running, not less. I think this raises more questions about SPT’s running of the subway and I’d certainly want the accountants who are examining its expenses to broaden their inquiry to look at this.”

In a desperate attempt to appear credible a spokeswoman for SPT said;

“As a result of our customer patronage survey, we are bringing in a timetable more suited to the travel patterns of our passengers and to maximise the efficiency of our services. This will include a change of frequency but will not reduce the operating hours of the subway.”

But there will be less trains running, the point!

It seems that as well as incompetent leadership there is also a problem of strategic vision.

If there was a football game on at Ibrox would Labour Councillors on the SPT beef up the number of trains running?

Is this Labour Councillor Jon Findlay’s idea of leadership, he was supposed to 'sort' the SPT out, poor industrial relations and diktat the order of the day?

Yours sincerely
