Dear All
Scottish Islamic Foundation should be closed down.
It now transpires that the Foundation which is a publicly funded company is on the verge of financial ruin.
On top of that it’s Chief Executive Osama Saeed, an SNP PPC has resigned.
The auditors who have gone through the SIF reported a “significant doubt” about the SIF’s ability to continue as a going concern.
That means they are of the opinion the people who run it can’t manage it properly.
£270,000 of Government grants has been ploughed into the Islamic lobbying group and festivals which it was supposed to run for the benefit of the community have never happened.
A complete history of failure to deliver!
The SIF was set up in 2008 to improve community relations but right from the word go, it has been repeatedly dogged by claims of cronyism and incompetence.
At the end of the first year it was £5,000 in the red.
Part of the diificulties may have stemmed from the make up of the SIF board, which has included Osama Saeed’s wife, two of his brothers, a cousin and his cousin’s girlfriend.
Perhaps in future if they still want to continue they might consider the concept of opening up their board to the wider community.
Can I say I am surprised?
No!
Did I speak out in advance?
Yes!
Labour MSP Iain Gray not noted for being the sharpest tack in the box said;
“Serious questions need to be asked about this organisation.”
Particularly in relation about why public money isn’t properly accounted for.
The smart thing is for this organisation to cease to exist, if you are not going to run it properly don’t run it all.
Yours sincerely
