Dear All
Lib Dem has-been Jim Wallace is to become the UK government's senior Scottish law officer.
The Lib dem, a former deputy Scottish first minister will play a key role in the coalition talks with the Tories.
His appointment as Advocate General for Scotland is telling as it shows how limited the Lib Dem talent is in Scotland actually.
Wallace who was made a peer is nothing more than a relic of the Labour/Lib Dem alliance which proved disastrous for Scotland.
This shows how the Tories plan to tackle Scotland and the SNP, using Lib Dems as human sandbags.
Trotting out a has-been may look like a good short term strategy but is not a viable long term goal for the Tories.
I can see the Tories not going the full distance with this coalition with the Lib Dems.
Sooner or later when they amass enough money and progress they will probably force an early General Election citing policy differences.
The marriage isn’t going to last.
You don’t bring in a has-been unless you are doing a patch up job.
Yours sincerely

Was a strange moved right enough George but, as you say, he'd nobody else.
Anyway his interests aren't in Scotland. As long as he's got a body covering the post that's the main thing I'm sure.
They will last long enough to effect next year’s election and its result. Will disaffected Lib Dems go to Labour or the SNP? If it is Labour will they have the cheek to go into a coalition with the Lib Dems or form a minority administration led by Iain Gray?
Dear Subrosa
It looks pretty desperate trotting out Jim Wallace.
I think Cameron is looking for buffers against the Scots.
