Dear All
Remember Glasgow North East by election, November 12th 2009.
One of the surprises was the Tory candidate Ruth Davidson; she didn’t win but she put up a good credible performance rather like Ian Robertson of the Lib Dems did in Glasgow East.
Now, she is heading south and appears on a shortlist to replace Julie Kirkbride MP along with Charles Barwell, Sajid Javid, Fiona Kemp, Tina Stowell and Mark Wooding, the other Tory hopefuls for the seat.
So, Bromsgrove Conservatives need to choose.
I can’t see Ruth Davidson being selected as she effectively has no political history in the area and isn’t local.
Her career in the Conservatives is also relatively short, not that it should matter but in politics networking is important.
An interesting point is that Conservative Association requested the selection process be handled under by-election rules; this suggests that they might want local man Charles Barwell.
I suppose that you could say that Ruth Davidson’s chances are slim but where is her loyalty to Glasgow?
Admittedly her chances of election in Glasgow are nil but you would think she would have stuck around and gained more experience.
I wish her the best of luck as we are both original from Maryhill.
Yours sincerely
