Biased anti SNP Scottish Press want SNP Government to continue to fund them citing they perform pubic service duty

Dear All

Read this headline, it is rather quite funny.

“Newspapers' historic public-service role threatened by 'anti-democratic' move”.

Newspapers aren’t in a public service role, they are in the business of profit and usually biased towards one political party or another.

In Scotland that means they are in bed with the Labour Party.

It is rather insulting that newspapers seem to think that the Scottish Government should support a biased media.

Now the newspapers have taken to complain about the Scottish Government plans permitting councils to stop advertising in newspapers.

The claim, false claim is that this could damage democracy.

Funny, I thought the anti SNP based on bias already did that.

SNP ministers plan to allow councils to save £6 million a year by allowing them to stop advertising in local newspapers; a new government website would in future carry advertisements.

And we aren’t chump change, the move would remove allegedly 12.5 per cent from newspaper revenues, titles may have to close, is the latest scaremongering story going the round.

But is democracy served by a bias press?

I would think not.

The case for continuing funding of the press was always in the hands of the press but when they became bias they lost that right to claim public service.

The new government website will be non political, it therefore serves the public service role and democracy.

Surely if money is a problem then the press should turn to their bedfellows in the Labour Party to support them.

If not, does that mean the Labour Party isn’t supporting democracy?

A free press shouldn’t favour any political party but be concerned in straight reporting and educated opinion forming that makes policy better.

At present, the current system is to reprint verbatim Labour Party press releases.

Yours sincerely
