60 Whitehall Mandarins speak out against the weak and dysfunctional Labour Government run by political diktat from the Number 10 bunker

Dear All

Now, it is a racing certainty that that Gordon Brown’s Government is going to lose the General Election, people are finding voice.

This time it is the Whitehall Mandarins who are speaking out, the analysis is that Brown’s government is “weak” and “dysfunctional” with a “strategic gap” at its heart.

Tell us something we don’t know already.

A report has been written based on the testimonies of 60 senior civil servants, the conclusion Downing Street and the Treasury “have few tools beyond the brute force of political edict”.

And this is by Institute for Government funded by Lord Sainsbury, Labour’s largest donor.

It also talks about the issuing of “barmy ideas” from the bunker of Downing Street.

The report is further evidence of how Brown isn’t in control and events have overtaken him.

The report is full of anonymous interviews with senior civil servants who in some cases have let rip about the lack of vision from No 10, coupled with an obsessive attempt to micro-manage policy.

In other words, the civil servants find policy via knee jerk politics as an untenable position and have said so.

On Brown personally, they say;

“It’s no great secret that Gordon is not strategic.”

One retired mandarin has put the nub of the problem into a concise statement;

“I had a very good working relationship with Downing Street under Blair but that changed when Brown came in and it contracted to a very small circle of people. You just got orders from Downing Street, not consultation, and that is still continuing today.”

Brown is a desperate man, personally disliked in his own party, by the people and by the machine of government.

And all because he is a control freak with no vision, lacking in policies and empathy, the sooner his government is defeated, the better.

Gordon Brown is one of the reasons that Britain is a corrupt, dysfunctional country sliding towards being a fascist state.

Yours sincerely

'....sliding towards being a fascist state'

I would agree had it not already happened of course.
