Labour MP Tom Harris shouts the odds on twitter regarding ‘SNP’ claim, it helps if you get facts right, Harris misrepresents the truth of SNP email!

Dear All

Tom Harris is a Labour MP.

On twitter he has shouted the odds:

“If the SNP didn't think they had a chance in #Inverclyde, I wonder why Salmond wrote to party members saying "we will win"

So, here is the original email sent out by the SNP on Alex Salmond's behalf to help Anne McLaughlin.

As you can clearly see, nowhere does Alex Salmond say "we will win".

But he does say:

“We need your help tomorrow if we are to win. Please do what you can”.

But I feel it is important to put up the entire post because being factual is important.

Not important for Tom Harris it seems.

‘Tomorrow is polling day in the Inverclyde by-election. Polls are open
7am to 10pm.... 15 hours in which all of us can help get Anne McLaughlin elected as the next MP for Inverclyde.

Your involvement with the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) operation is crucial to this success.

If you can get to the constituency please do so. We need people to
stand at polling stations, help with the doorstep GOTV operation, give
voters a lift to the polling station, help feed our army of volunteers,
all sorts of tasks.

We will be on the doorstep and encouraging our supporters out to vote from mid-morning until polls close at 10pm. The rooms are at 10 Carnock Street, Greenock PA15 1HB and will be open from 6am.

If you are not able to get to Inverclyde in person, you can still help.
From 10am tomorrow simply login to http://pollingday.snp.org, with your membership number and website password. If you don't know your website password you can reset it here, https://www.snp.org/user/password

pollingday.snp.org is incredibly easy to use. If you want some
pointers, information on the system can be found here,

We need your help tomorrow if we are to win. Please do what you can.

Many thanks

Alex’

So, as you can see, Tom Harris is being economical with the truth.

Checking his wiki entry, I see he is just a Labour hack who moved from one Labour position to another until he got an MP seat.

Tom Harris was a journalist and to get the facts so wrong is embarrassing.

If you’re going to spin, perhaps in future the Labour Party might want to use the truth instead of running off at the mouth.

Harris is probably gloating over Labour winning Inverclyde, but Iain McKenzie is a poor candidate and he lost circa 9,000 votes.

And that’s a fact.

Yours sincerely

The figures on percentage vote (which is the only way to judge the lay of the land) were as follows:

Liberals 13.3% reduced to 2.2% of the vote. A personal humiliation for Nick and Willie?

Tories, 12% down to 9.9% of the vote. Should Cameron or Annabel be personally humiliated?

Labour's own share reduced for 56% to 53.8%, despite being in opposition everywhere that affects the voters in Scotland. Should Ed or Iain be hanging their heads?

SNP: RISE from 17.5% to 33%

Hmmmmm: At the end of the day, I know that the only thing that counts is the who won, but it could be said that to lose a percentage of the votes while in opposition is POOR and to get an almost double share of the vote is GOOD.

Tom Harris is just an irritating little smart arse who wasn't popular enough with either his party or his leader to get a seat in the shadow cabinet, which is what, but his own admission, he wanted.

Go back to writing Tom. Even your own party don't rate you, and apart from praise of Tony Blair, I've never heard you say one positive thing.

Dear Niko

Alex Salmond turned up to support the candidate Anne McLaughlin.

It was what he was expected to do and did to the best of his ability.

Elections are not won by one person only.

It's a team effort.

The SNP vote went from 17.5% to 33%a reasonable and credible result within the time of such a short campaign.

If you understand the political economy then you would know as I did on Wednesday 15th June that winning wasn't possible.

Inverclyde SNP have had a boost for future elections.

Yours sincerely
