Lib Dem councillor and Council leader Derek Osbourne resigns over child porn arrest, Met Police question Councillor and then bail him to reappear in August, the Lib Dems have problems

Dear All

When you think of Lib Dems you think a bit wooly in the head, but in recent months sex has come to the forth with claims being made against elected members!

The latest shocker is that a Liberal Democrat council leader has resigned after being arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children.

And it isn’t just an old pleb or hack, it is Councillor Derek Osbourne, who has been leader of Kingston upon Thames since 2003.

Osbourne has been arrested by Police, and depending on their investigation, he could be facing trial, if convicted, well, it should be jail.

The new acting leader of Kingston Council said the local Liberal Democrat group were “deeply shocked” by the arrest.

This just goes to show you never know what you are getting in an elected official; the public image didn’t match the private reality.

Writing on the the Kingston Borough Liberal Democrat website,  Councillor Liz Green informed members that Derek Osbourne has resigned from the Liberal Democrat Group.

Jumped before he was fired presumably?

Councillor Liz Green added:

“We are deeply shocked by these allegations but I am unable to comment further as we must now allow the police the time and space they need to investigate the allegations thoroughly and without prejudice.”

This sorry episode can only add to the downward plunge that Lib Dems are experiencing can’t be trusted on pledges and looking incredibly shaky on personal matters.

According to the London Councils’ website, Osbourne was first elected as a councillor in 1986 before becoming leader between 1997 and 1998, and again in 2003.

Sometimes the wrong people get elected into public office, and one can only wonder how long Osbourne has allegedly been looking at child porn.

And to put it more into context, Osbourne was a parliamentary candidate for Kingston upon Thames in 1992 fighting the then Chancellor Norman Lamont.

Luckily he was beaten, and in this case many people if they had know about Osborne’s background would be happy with that result, even the most rabid Tory hater would have to support that one.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said a 59-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday at an address in Kingston, on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children.

The thing about the internet; is like for the most part like walking in fresh snow, you leave a trail which cannot be wiped out.

Osborne was taken into custody at a south London police station and bailed to a date in August.

His political career is looking very much like it is well and truly over.

Another example of someone who had it all and pissed it up against the wall!

Yours sincerely
