Ex Green Party Campaigner Suzanne Kelly who started a petition to get Donald Trump banned from the UK says that Trump’s statement to withdraw £700 million of investment from Scotland is akin to 'blackmail', is Kelly the woman who cost Scotland £700 million pounds?

Dear All

You have no doubt heard of the law of unintended consequences, if not here is the jist:

‘The law of unintended consequences, often cited but rarely defined, is that actions of people and especially of government always have effects that are unanticipated or unintended’.

I can’t say I am a fan of Donald Trump, I don’t like the way he acts and I don’t like the way he does business, however every now and then he does have a point but on his populist policy to ban Muslims from entering the USA, he is wrong.

If you are going to ban someone let the reason be lawful and justified.

As soon as Donald Trump made his populist policy known, there was outrage from Scotland’s unpopular First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Donald Trump was removed as an ‘ambassador for Scotland’, it was a made title which didn’t mean anything.

The campaigner Suzanne Kelly whipped up a petition calling for Donald Trump to be banned from the UK. The petition seemed popular as about 570,000 signed up to ensure that a debate would be held in Westminster.

Now, it seems that Ms. Kelly is a tad upset because the Trump Organisation has threatened to withhold £700m of investment if he is prevented from travelling to the UK.

David Cameron has already said he doesn’t agree with Trump’s comments or see the need for a ban. And less we forget Donald Trump is standing to be the Presidential candidate for the Republican Party.

In theory, he could be the next President of the United States of America.

Anyway, Kelly has accused Trump of attempting to blackmail Scotland by withdrawing plans to invest £700 million.

Who does the money belong to?

Trump and he can do the hell what he likes with it.

Can you image the way the mental processes of Ms Kelly must be when she said Trump had "thrown a temper tantrum" over the issue. ‘We want to ban you but we still want your money’!

This begs the question is Ms. Kelly simple minded?

Kelly has also questioned the value of Mr Trump's investments in Scotland and the number of "permanent, desirable jobs" they had created, this is more or less the line used by people in the Scottish National Party. Scotland’s ‘jolly fat man’ Alex Salmond tried it on and Trump shot him down and made him look a fool.

Kelly said:

“He's threatening Scotland once again, as he did over the offshore wind farms, that if he is barred from entering the UK, he'll pull out of his Scottish golf courses. The irony of a man who wants to ban Muslims from entering the US throwing a temper tantrum over being similarly banned himself is apparent to everyone except the tycoon himself.”

She added:

“Donald Trump is a man that knows the cost of everything - well, a hugely inflated cost of everything - and the value of nothing”.

Suzanne Kelly could be the woman who lost Scotland £700 million pounds!

MPs will be debating Kelly's petition on 18 January, there will be no vote.

It will remain a decision for Home Secretary Theresa May whether or not Mr Trump should be prevented from travelling to the UK.

And he won’t be, but one thing which will be ‘banned’ is goodwill by the Trump Organisation, I don’t expect Trump is a ‘forgive and forget’ type of individual. If he becomes President of the United States, he may carry out his temp ban on Muslims entering the country, but wouldn’t it be rather funny if Suzanne Kelly and Nicola Sturgeon as undesirables?

Donald Trump won’t get banned this side of the US Presidential election, and doubtful post-election as well.

I found this about Ms. Kelly:

Seems she likes to shout the odds a bit.

In 1979, the then President Jimmy Carter banned Iranians from entering the US:

Some people say that this should be used as a comparison with Trump’s actions, however there is a slight difference, people were banned due to their religion but due to their nationality.

Finally, it would be funny to see a bit of grovelling by Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP if Donald Trump did become President; however, you might also see a bit of nationalist outrage if Humza Yousaf tries to get into the US and gets his visa application flat refused.

No getting into Disneyworld to get a shot on the roller coasters.

Yours sincerely

  3. A bit hypocritical from Sturgeon. After all, she's quite happy to entertain Chinese business. Donald Trump is a clown, but he is a presidential candidate and also a rather successful businessman. You cannot ignore people like that.

The MPs debate is waste of bloody time and money. I can think of more pressing issues to debate, like the situation in Germany.

  4. I just liked her comment (somewhere about para 16 of her statement) along the lines of "If that's what electors want, we need new electors". which could be paraphrased as "If you don't agree with me you can't vote". No elector, no problem, as Uncle Joe might have said.

  5. Trump is a clown there is no chance of him being banned this side of the primaries though. If he takes his cash out will Sturgeon set up another task force , if he got elected they would be falling over themselves to kiss his posterior right enough.
