Screwing the poor: unpopular Nicola Sturgeon to attend STUC in Glasgow tonight alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, will Nicola be giving an impassioned speech about her Government destroyed the life chances of the working class or will it just be another opportunity to play the ‘grievance card’ against the Tories or attempt to justify her failure to support the French people?

Dear All

It seems that Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is to appear at a rally alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn in sunny Glasgow. The purpose of the rally is to voice opposition against the UK Government's proposed Trade Union Bill.

The venue for the event is the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall which is expected to have about 2,000 people attend to listen to various speakers make their pitch why the bill is wrong. This event is hosted by the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) and will open with a speech by STUC general secretary Grahame Smith.

It seems that also your roving reporter, George Laird is on the attendee list; whether anything interesting is said I will let you know.

So, unpopular Nicola Sturgeon is attending, given she and her government have shafted the poor, her tone will be loud and angry about what the Tories are planning to do, all the while forgetting what she has done.

Life chances for the poor are getting worse under the SNP!

I know some of the speakers, one of them being Chris Stephens who was elected as an MP, his claim to fame is that during candidate selection at the Pollok SNP branch, he sat back as an Asian man was abused.

And did nothing, what a hero!

The biggest dick of the night however must be reserved for another of Nicola Sturgeon’s pals called Aamer Anwar, what he is doing there is anyone’s guess. I expect he is working on a future SNP candidacy down the line.At that point, the SNP will really be fucked even more than they are at present, Anwar likes to play the race card; recently he has start praying and says he has ‘found’ God. I obviously can’t speak for God but I would strongly suggest when Anwar comes calling don’t answer the door.

For Labour, there is said to be Jenny Marra, the MSP and there is a un-named "special guest", presumably this isn’t Santa or the Krankies?

Other people attend outside to form a picket are Stop the War who wish to do a picket line outside by their anti-War activists. One can see the point if the speakers are pro air strikes, but this is obviously a publicity stunt by them to try and hog the limelight.

Stop the War = don’t bomb Isis.

Recently the Green MP Caroline Lucas decided to stop being involved with Stop the War:

“Caroline stepped back from the Stop the War Coalition a few weeks ago. Her busy parliamentary and constituency schedule means that she doesn’t have time to fully engage with the role of a Patron and, in light of some recent StWC positions that she didn’t support, she felt standing down was the responsible thing to do. Like the Stop the War Coalition, Caroline is opposed to British bombing in Syria because it will neither keep Britain safe nor help bring about a lasting peace in Syria.”

Pressure is on Jeremy Corbyn to have nothing to do with these cranks.

Here is something to click and read re Stop the War:

This is when they got it wrong, much like Nicola Sturgeon recently did on bombing Isis, what a fool she made of herself doing that piece of PR.

As I say, if anyone says anything interesting then I will let you know, other than that I will just let people yap and see what comes out.

I hope that the evening will be spent talking about the UK Government Bill and doesn’t wander off track to talk about Syria.

Yours sincerely

  3. I see the SNP voted down giving carers the living wage at Holyrood, and Nicola got heckled about it at the STUC conference.

Yet some folk still think the SNP are 'Progressive'!

  4. Hi Stuart,

I did attend the STUC event, I missed the Sturgeon booing as I bumped into an old work colleague so got sidetracked for a while.

The feeling I got of the event was it was subdued like someone had died and there was a heavy pall over the event.

I heard a few good speeches then I left to get something to eat, I decided to miss the main speakers, and as I came in late missed registration. The hall was packed on the ground floor, less it seemed above.

    George
