Dear All
I thought I would do a story on human rights today, since the
issue is in the public domain regarding the "limbs-in-the-loch"
killer, William Beggs.
William Beggs is someone who is so evil, he should spend the
rest of his life in prison; he is a danger to society and a poor excuse for a
human being.
He has an interest despite being in prison of going back to
court, whether it is to get the right to vote or just recently claiming his
rights have been abused in some way.
Beggs was convicted of murdering 18-year-old Barry Wallace in
2001, and now he has been awarded £4,800 in a ruling by the European Court of
Human Rights.
The reason the compensation was awarded to him was for the
length of time taken for his appeals to be heard.
First Minister Alex Salmond speaking of the award to Beggs
said that it is "extremely distasteful" to the public.
We wouldn’t have been paying out this money if the justice
system was run properly by Alex Salmond’s pal, Kenny MacAskill and worked.
Justice under MacAskill is a sick joke; Scotland is rightly a laughing stock.
Wee daft Kenny playing his silly little stupid games to try
and escape his Megrahi legacy!
In general, human rights are a good thing, an essential
thing and must be defeated to the hilt.
We don’t give people human rights on the basis we like them,
we do so to ensure that people are treated fairly within the system. If they
aren’t, no matter how much we dislike them we cannot allow emotion to interfere
with justice. If we do so it is the road to fascism and none of us are safe,
human rights are the cornerstone of a decent society.
It is easy to get sidetracked because of a particular case
when the mob gets their blood up. Some cases can be most disturbing such as
Beggs, I doubt he feels any remorse for the murder which sent him to prison. But
the bottom line has to be that everyone is given their rights regardless.
This SNP Government’s record on human rights is a disgrace,
Alex Salmond stands at Party Conferences in front of a sign saying ‘Forward’
(copied from Obama) but the reality is that Scotland is ‘backward’ under his
leadership on the issue of human rights.
Cadder was much more than simply the case itself, it
contained a fundamental principle which the SNP fought to deny people their full
human rights under the law. Luckily the UK Supreme Court stepped in and reset
that problem right, now people in Scotland can access a lawyer when
arrested.
A safeguard previously denied them under all devolved
governments.
As to Beggs getting the cash, it is something everyone has
to accept but not like, however it flags up the complete incompetence in the
justice system and that is the real story of this episode.
Salmond added:
"I doubt there is a single person in Scotland who doesn't believe that
that award is extremely distasteful."
Salmond is obviously wrong; William Beggs is over the moon,
free money!!!
And Salmond should remember, there is an SNP link to Beggs.
William Beggs to Richard Bache, Richard Bache to Nicola Sturgeon, Nicola Sturgeon to Alex Salmond.
Yours sincerely

"when the mob ......" from someone who, whilst pontificating on human rights, thinks this individual should spend the rest of his life in prison? Surely he has the "human right" to repent and be rehabilitated?
ReplyDeleteDear Mr Laird,
ReplyDeleteSometimes your fingers run ahead of your brain.
"In general, human rights are a good thing, an essential thing and must be defeated to the hilt."
You usually censor my comments, although I don't use sweary words or vulgar abuse, so I wonder if you will publish this one.
Well said Geo, justice is a boat adrift. I blame the SNP, still on the other hand, Beggs gets £5,000 from taxpayer funds and Salmond blows £400,000 at the Olympics from taxpayer funds.
ReplyDeleteBeggs for First Minister, he is cheaper than Salmond.
