Dear All
Even before Scottish MP Jim Devine gets to a Court of Law, he is admitting submitting false receipts for a stationery claim of £5,500.
The rule of thumb which lawyers always say, is to keep quiet and say nothing to damage your case.
But not Devine, he is running off at the mouth saying the receipts he submitted for stationery were bogus.
His defence, he was given the go-ahead to do this by a Labour whip.
That isn’t a defence, if it was the Fees Office and he had proof, he could dirty the water.
Labour Whip, I don’t think that will stand.
On top of shooting himself in the foot, Devine tells us that such antics are normal practice in the trade union movement.
The Labour Party, who have thrown Devine to wolves said;
"Mr Devine is the author of his own misfortune and must now live with the consequences."
I take from this that the Labour Whip won’t be appearing as a star witness!
I suppose in a sense you could have some sympathy for Devine on the basis that he is the designated lamb for the slaughter and so many others are being shielded.
Of the three Labour MPs charged with fraud, Devine has the best chance of acquittal.
I would hope that Devine sees sense and doesn’t damage his case any further; he needs to keep his mouth shut.
Yours sincerely
George Laird

Our Jim looks like an older version of John McNamee..who will probably become a Labour MP
ReplyDeleteDear Mxyzptlk
ReplyDeleteWe can only hope, I hear he is a 'rising' star.
We need as many stars in politics as there is too much darkness.
Do you think he would give me a balloon and a rosette?

Noooooo, please don't suggest he "shuts up", he is becoming even funnier as the days go on with his ridiculous statements.
ReplyDeleteI am actually enjoying the man squirm!
Dear Suzy
ReplyDeleteI do not know if you are aware but SNP policy as far as I understand it extends to helping those who don't vote for the party.
Given that the Labour Government hasn't helped the 20,000 scottish people affected, I am surprised that you should be so down on John Mason.
He isn't a single issue politician and is only trying to help.
He is MP for a deprived area and he and his staff have a rather large case load.
This wasn't about political points rather than geniune concern for those who lost out.
Yours sincerely
