A few posts ago I was commenting on how under the SNP, the Scottish Ambulance Service had produced better ambulance response times.
The reason isn’t magical, it purely a matter of good management and partnership that is working its way through the NHS Scotland.
Under Labour, the health service never got the support that it deserved as Labour imposed talk down diktat on the service.
Now, more bad news for Jackie Baillie and the Labour Party, the number of c.difficile cases amongst the over 65’s has fallen by 55% since 2007 under the SNP Government.
Good news for patients and their loved ones that the SNP is taking the necessary action to drive down infection and up standards.
Could not the Labour Executive have done that in their 8 years of management?
55% is no small figure, it is huge.
Nicola Sturgeon said;
"Tackling 'superbugs' like MRSA and C.diff is my top priority because of the suffering they cause patients and their relatives and the way they undermine public confidence in the NHS”.
What a pity Labour MSP Andy Kerr couldn’t have done as much to save lives.
She added;
"These sustained falls of both C.diff and MRSA prove that our efforts to tackle these and other infections are reaping rewards and this can only be good news for patients throughout Scotland. I congratulate NHS Boards on the hard work that has been done by NHS staff to help bring infections down, but there can be no room for complacency”.
Rather than taking the credit, the Health Secretary passed on the laurels to the people who deserved it, the ordinary men and women who make up the NHS Staff.
The SNP Government now has a new target, to drive down the infection rates even lower, it is a constant fight to beat the superbugs and save lives but the difference is that everyone is on board.
For Labour MSP Jackie Baillie like Cathy Jamieson before, it’s back to reading the newspapers, eating the biscuits and trying to find the next vulnerable person to try and smear the Scottish Government’s record with.
A record of achievement that the Labour Party couldn’t match in 8 years of mismanagement and failure!
