Dear All
Just as Scotland has problems with divisive
separatists hell bend in causing division, so does Spain, the Spanish problem
rests in Catalonia which is a relatively wealthy part of Spain. The fight for
independence has a long and bloody history. In recent times, the trouble flared
up in the region leading to a crackdown by the Spanish authorities. After the misjudged Catalan declaration
of independence, on the 27th October 2017, those who the Spain said committed
sedition when on the run.
One of them was Former Catalan minister Clara
Ponsati. Ponsati then fled to Scotland and was welcomed by the cohorts of the
SNP. The Spanish authorities issued a
Former Catalan minister Clara Ponsati
arrested at Edinburgh police station European Arrest Warrant on the charge of
sedition over her role in Catalonia’s unsanctioned independence referendum
in 2017. So, if she is convicted, she faces 15 years behind, given what was
done was illegal, she will probably face a jail sentence anywhere between 9 and
13 years. Nine others involved in this sedition case have already been
sentenced.
I know what you think, this is a lovely old
dear, what harm could see do?
Well, harm was done, she along with others
held political power, and used that power unwisely which led to serious trouble
and violence.
Spain has a history of civil war, back in
the Franco era.
This was a bloody period in Spanish
history; his reign was marked by
both brutal repression with thousands killed, and economic prosperity. Although
a dictator, Franco greatly improved the quality of life in Spain. Naturally,
the Spanish Government doesn’t want to go back to the dark days of the Spanish
civil war.
What the Catalan officials did was to take
Spain on a course which led to violence, which is why Clara Ponsati has to be
judged in a court in Spain. Today, she was arrested much to the outrage of the
SNP, her lawyer Aamer Anwar said:
“We believe this is an abuse of the
extradition process, we believe this is an abuse of the European Arrest Warrant”.
Well, this is neither, when a crime is
committed, there is no immunity because there is a political aspect to it.
Anwar added:
“The crime of sedition is a 16th-century
offence that was created by kings and queens to stop backlash from
ordinary people that wanted their rights. Luckily in Scotland,
sedition was abolished a long time ago. We will be fighting this on the basis
of Clara’s human rights being abused if she is returned back to Spain.”
He will lose, this is not a human rights
case, saying it is, is why human rights is so discredit because of this abuse
of the court system. And it is an abuse which is why criminals use this tactic
because legally they don’t have a real case to present. Since Ms Ponsati has
been arrested she is expected to be transferred to Edinburgh Sheriff Court for
a hearing and so will probably apply and get bail.
Home for tea!
Arresting her is the first step to
deporting her, she has effectively run out of road, and although some might
jump on this as a ‘cause celeb’, look at the outcome of what her actions
started. When I see
Violence!
Finally, the SNP embraced Clara Ponsati and
held her up as a plucky martyr, she isn’t, she also isn’t a stupid woman either
as her wiki page shows, highly educated, an academic, but like many who think
they are above the law, she will be find out the hard way, she isn’t. After she
is deported, the only time she will be mentioned by the SNP is as a talking
point to advance their agenda. Given nine of her cohorts have received lengthy prison
sentences, I doubt her chances of a return to Scotland post trial.
Her life, her career and her reputation
destroyed.
Yours sincerely
