Dear All
Scotland’s ‘jolly fat man’ Alex Salmond is
having a terrible independence campaign, his exceptional poor judgment on the
major reserved issues is astounding to political watchers.
His main mistake was to put Scotland’s
unpopular Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon as the ‘face of independence’.
She had utterly failed to garner support;
the SNP plan to create phoney little groups to moblise support was rather
poorly thought-out and never should have happened.
Yes Scotland is seen as an SNP front,
staffed by the SNP, funded by the SNP and directed by the SNP. They did however
allow a few posts to go to other groups such the Scottish Greens.
So far most of the directors, all women
have jumped ship, even the former SNP MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville wasn’t loyal.
On the thorny issue of the EU and
potentially Scotland’s own membership as a new State, Salmond has called on the
UK Government to approach Brussels over his plan to fast-track an independent
Scotland's membership of the EU.
This won’t happen.
And it is stupid to ask.
One has to wonder if it has clicked to those
in the SNP that EU grants and EU law are now a source of concern, because if
Scotland did go independent there would be a gap.
Does the white paper have a bill in it to
address whether EU will continue in the event if Scotland left and then managed
to obtain membership in its own right?
Probably not, Alex Salmond is an
opportunist, he isn’t particularly bright and if we also include Ms. Sturgeon
in the mix, the leadership need others to do their thinking for them.
Now, Salmond has gone cap in hand to urged
UK ministers to work with the Scottish Government to test a new legal proposal.
This is outlined in his independence White
Paper, to bypass the EU's usual, lengthy accession procedure.
You don’t ask for something that you aren’t
entitled to, and add to it the British Government will not be conceding any ground
that Salmond and his vile nasty clique have any legitimate claims beyond their
remit.
Put bluntly, they can fuck off!
Scottish officials have confirmed the
Scottish Government had no plans to contact the European Commission directly.
The EU blew Sturgeon out when she requested
a meeting because they will not interfere with the internal domestic politics
of a member country.
The EU told the SNP a year ago that any
request for legal advice on an independent Scotland's plans for membership must
be submitted via the UK.
The UK holds the contract and has sole
rights which are not transferable as the existing member state.
If Scotland leaves the UK, it automatically
ceases to be within the EU sphere in any legal sense or framework.
The fast-track membership only emerged in
the White Paper last month, the SNP leadership thinks that because they want
something that everyone will just go along with them. The problem is that
increasingly there are a lot of people who really don’t give a toss what they
think and see them as just a burden to be ignored.
Salmond said:
"Why don't we have a precise legal
scenario (from Brussels)? Because the United Kingdom Government refuse to go to
the Commission with the precise legal scenario."
Isn’t this the man whose party claimed that
Scotland that Scotland would have automatic membership?
Is this the man who said that the SNP had eminent
legal experts to shore up his position?
What he did have was a few people not connected
to the EU making statements that weren’t fact but opinion, an opinion worth as
much value as the guy down the pub.
Some of the people I recall were even dead!
Good call Alex!
The UK Government has declined all previous
requests to approach Brussels and they won’t be on the phone anytime soon over
fast track membership.
Scots Tory leader Ruth Davidson about 18
months ago on the BBC pulled out a letter that the SNP had never contacted Brussels
either as a Government or as an opposition to ask about membership.
Now as per usual, the SNP clique wants
others to do the work for them while they sit back and reap any rewards.
Davidson said it was "extraordinary" the First Minister had not
attempted to contact Brussels direct.
The long running SNP leadership debacle over
EU membership is a sign of the utter incompetence of Alex Salmond and unpopular
Nicola Sturgeon.
Now an increasingly desperate Alex Salmond
is looking like a rat trapped in a barrel running round in circles looking for
a way out of his self created problems.
Scotland has rejected him and Sturgeon’s
poisonous vision of independence.
David Cameron and Westminster won’t dancing
to a Scottish jig because Salmond is sitting this one out on the EU, all
dressed up and nowhere to go.
Yours sincerely
