Scottish Independence: EU chief Herman Van Rompuy backs union as Salmond and Sturgeon’s right wing government start to rapidly run out of allies and friends!

The independence dream of Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon has hit the buffers in spectacularly fashion.

Assumption presented as fact isn’t evidence.

Scotland in the EU is one of a number of issues that need to be addressed, so far, we know nothing has been done of any significant note by Salmond and Sturgeon.

Europe is a key economic area and it is in Scotland’s national interest to be a member of the European  Union.

But there are problems on the horizons.

When academics look back on the independence campaign of Yes Scotland, they will come to two conclusions very quickly, one, that it has been botched from start to finish, and two, it wasn’t a people’s campaign rather than an SNP crony ridden campaign of the not very bright.

They say that truth will set you free, in Scotland, lies and deception are making a comeback for the Salmond Government, this is according to people in both the Labour Party and Scottish National Party.

The issue of trust in Salmond, himself is under the spotlight since the Labour Party called him a ‘barefaced liar’ over the EU debacle.

After much hot air and bluster from Salmond, the crony ridden vessel of Salmond and Sturgeon has ran aground on the EU shoreline ripping out the keel.

We now see a war of words has broken out after Herman Van Rompuy, the president of the European Council, denounced separatism and insisted the "word of the future is union".

European Council chief Herman Van Rompuy said no-one can gain from separatism; his intervention is another obstacle for Alex Salmond as the amount of anti independence numbers grow.

There is no better tomorrow coming down the road for ordinary working class Scots, promises by Salmond are seen by many as completely meaningless.

Margaret Curran recently said that the court of public opinion has found Alex Salmond guilty over the EU information debacle when it was found out that not only had information been withheld but the rules changed to ensure that a FOI request became invalid.

Van Rompuy will have a big say on whether Scotland gets EU membership, it isn’t automatic despite the witterings of Nicola Sturgeon.

We should remember that Van Rompuy could chair the key meetings about an independent Scotland's EU membership.

This is a political decision.

You may have caught Nicola Sturgeon put forward the case that because Scots are members of the EU at present, this means they automatically continue this membership.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case if Scotland leaves the UK; the contract solely rests with the Westminster Government. As a lawyer Ms. Sturgeon should have took more interest in law, Lord Denning former Master of the Rolls was always a good read on contract law.

The Scottish Government has no contract and has never held a contract; this means their position is weak. To highlight that point, remember the constant whingeing from Scottish Government Ministers over not getting representation at EU Fisheries talks.

No contract, no representation and no leg to stand on!

Shadow Scottish Secretary Margaret Curran said:

"Scots will rightly be asking the same question that Mr Van Rompuy did – is separation in this global age really the way forward?

"We agree with the European Council president in his belief that the best way to tackle the problems we face is by binding together, not breaking apart. I would suggest that Alex Salmond stops his assertions and listens to those who know more about this than him.

 "When you also look at the reports that Cyprus will want Scotland to join the queue to join the EU, the SNP's claims that Scotland will simply walk straight into the EU are shown to be more and more ridiculous by the day."

The Right Wing SNP Government who are looking increasingly out of touch with ordinary people and reality seem to bank their hopes on a statement by Graham Avery, an honorary director general of the EC, that a newly independent Scotland would be fast-tracked, talking about grasping at straws! 

That opinion is sheer nonsense.

No matter what Graham Avery’s opinion is, it isn’t legal fact; it is subjective opinion and as such has no more weight than the guy down the pub.

And that is a fact; Avery has no power on this issue at all.

Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, has claimed Scotland as "a new state" would have to apply for EU membership, as has Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo.

This is a political decision, it was always a political decision, so, supposed rights and entitlements which Nicola Sturgeon has been carping on about are just her opinion; and again have no more weight than the guy down the pub.

Scotland won’t have automatic EU entry, to say otherwise is to deceive the Scottish public, and we have already seen enough of that, England, Spain, Cyprus and Belgium are all concerned about internal problems within their own areas.

As to Salmond and Sturgeon’s plan to lay out a blue print for Scotland, too little too late, all the work should have been done years ago and wasn’t, 10 to midnight just won't cut it with the public.
