Labour councillor John Holden resigns from public office as he is unable to do surgeries from HMP Longpoke, cell window too far from main gate!

Dear All

Highland Labour councillor John Holden, who was jailed for benefits fraud, has resigned.

Mr. Holden was jailed for a year last month after being found guilty of falsely claiming £43,000 in benefits.

The 63-year-old, who had represented Inverness South for Labour, denied the charges.

Holden sought release from prison while he prepared his appeal but Lady Smith sitting at the High Court last month refused to grant bail.

No way to end public life.

Yours sincerely
