Former Labour MP Margaret Moran is charged over fraudulent claims she made for parliamentary expenses, 15 for false accounting!

Dear All

No one can forget or forgive the expenses scandal at Westminster, after preaching down to the rest of us for years, it turns out many of our MPs are morally corrupt.

Which brings us to former Labour MP Margaret Moran, she has been charged over fraudulent claims she made for parliamentary expenses.

Her defence about claiming for second homes was terribly funny, at the time when asked why money was going to a second home in Southampton, she blurted out she was in a relationship with some guy.

I personally have never heard of ‘I want a shag’ defence and I assume neither will her brief.

Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer said the ex-Luton South MP faces 21 charges including 15 of false accounting.

Oh my goodness, she is in deep trouble.

Starmer is alleging that Moran, who fiddled her expenses by more than £60,000 over a four-year period.

If convicted she will be the first female former MP to be jailed in the expenses scandal.

So far, the Labour Party has seen David Chaytor, Eric Illsey, Jim Devine and Elliot Morley all jailed.

Moran was forced to resign when the allegations in May 2009 exploded like a ten ton bomb under her.

It is said that Moran repeatedly flipped her designated second home, making claims for properties in London, Luton and Southampton through a scheme intended for the maintenance of second homes or offices between November 2004 and August 2008.

About £23,000 was reportedly claimed for treating dry rot at her home in Southampton, 100 miles from her constituency.

The charges from the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Met Police Commissioner come after a two year investigation.

Mr Starmer said:

"Having thoroughly reviewed the evidence gathered by police, we have decided there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to bring criminal charges against Margaret Moran”.

Adding:

"The summons relates to 15 charges of false accounting. Ms Moran also faces six charges of forgery ... where it is alleged that she submitted forged invoices in support of some of her claims."

Ms Moran will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates Court on September 19.
£60,000 is a lot of money and if found guilty, she will be expecting a lot of jail time.

This seems to be another example of a person who had it all pissing it up against a wall.

Is it so hard in politics to play it straight?

With Courts handing out six months to people stealing £3.50 pack of bottled water, Moran better get a good brief.

Yours sincerely
