Dear All
I believe in freedom of speech, people have that fundamental human right, I also believe that if you exercise that right you have to take responsibility for what you say.
To be blunt, tell what you believe is right and true.
3rd May 2007 was the day that Madeleine McCann went missing from a holiday flat in Praia da Luz.
Despite an investigation, she has never been found and is believed by many people to be dead.
Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, have said that they left the children unsupervised in a ground floor bedroom while they ate at a restaurant about 130 yards (120 metres) away.
They walked off and left three children under 5 alone to their utter shame and damnation.
I remember Gerry McCann from my time at Glasgow University, he was the kind of person when you walked passed you instinctively turned round and checked.
Something in the eyes cold, dead and lifeless like a shark.
While people searched for Madeleine McCann on the night she was reported missing, both her parents didn’t search for her.
Quite soon after the disappearance, a McCann Circus sprang up with journals, newspapers, television documentaries, news programmes, British Government Ministers, ‘B’ list Celebrities, Gossip Columnists and bulletins all propagated the abduction story which there is no evidence to support.
The only fact is that Madeleine McCann is gone.
If there is a hero in this story it is a simple man, Gonçalo Amaral, the Policeman assigned to investigate the case.
He doesn’t believe the abduction story like many others and after being removed from the case went on to write a book about the events surrounding it.
“The Truth of the Lie” is available to read online and doesn’t fit with the crafted PR image that Gerry and Kate McCann want to see in the public domain.
To that end they got an injunction against Gonçalo Amaral to financially break him but the smug McCanns' underestimated Portuguese Justice.
Now, the Portuguese Court of Appeal has overturning the ban on Goncalo Amaral’s book.
It is a victory for freedom of speech, a victory for justice and a victory of Goncalo Amaral.
It is also a defeat for Gerry and Kate McCann, their days of gagging people are fast running out.
The Appeals Court of Lisbon says:
“The contents of the book does not offend any of the fundamental rights of the applicants [the McCann couple and their three children]” and “the exercise of its writing and publication is included in the constitutional rights that are assured to everyone by the European Convention for Human Rights and by the Portuguese Republic’s Constitution”.
Both Gerry and Kate McCann should be returned to Portugal and reinvestigated by the Portuguese Police as Arguidos.
The McCann’s have rights, something they showed scant regard in relation to Gonçalo Amaral.
Yours sincerely
George Laird

Well Done George Laird for telling it like it is.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this excellent post.
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope it comes to the attention of Dr. Goncalo Amaral.
It is almost impossible to find anyone with the courage to speak out about the case after encountering Gerry McCann personally.
All the best from America...
I had no idea someone had written a book about this - I wonder if it will be published in English?
ReplyDeleteThank you for this great article. Being also a doctor and a mother I cannot understand that these people, who should know better, did this to their children, even after Madeleine one morning asked "why didn't you come when we were crying".
ReplyDeleteI am not British, maybe that's why I don't understand the protection that these people have enjoyed since.
Thank you for this blog, it's open and above all honest.
ReplyDeleteFirstly Mr Amaral, or we should address him as Dr Amaral is not a 'simple' man, but I take what you said, not to mean un-intelligent, but ''straightforward' & un-complicated. To have gained his position in the PJ and all PJ officers have a university degree.
Next, what is often forgotten about the home alone children, three of them for four nights, plus the others in the group. The McCanns apartment WAS NOT in a complex, but a sub-let apartment to Mark Warner. It was ground floor, end of block\good public access and left UNLOCKED.
Thank you for an excellent post. Forca Goncalo
ReplyDeleteI say well done to anyone who refuses to be silenced.
ReplyDeleteToo many unanswered questions, lack of co-operation by parents and friends mean that many are left wondering why this couple and friends, have managed to escape, so far, the arms of the Law.
Keep going Dr Goncalo Amaral and Anthony Bennett and all those who seek justice for Madeleine. God bless.
Bonnie @5.29pm,
ReplyDeleteThe book still does not have an english "official" version, Mr. Amaral tried to find a publish in the UK but none had the "spine" to accept it, just like it happened when he tried to hire a british lawyer, none would take his case.
However, there is one online translation that I know of, thanks to the dedicated hard work of a wonderful lady: - Anna Andress.
She took on the mammoth task of translating the book into english and it's available in her blog:
http://frommybigdesk.blogspot.com/
Pass on the word to other english readers!
Sorry, in my response to the poster Bonnie, I obviously meant "a PUBLISHER", not "a publish".
ReplyDeleteReally must start to review what I write before publishing!
Mr. Laird,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this excellent post. Yet again you prove why I enjoy reading your brillant blog. Keep up the great work. Too many people have been silenced out of fear of what the McCanns' may do but you always speak your mind. This article is welcomed.
ah, at last someone who is not afraid to speak thier mind and is not afraid of carter ruck, bravo
ReplyDeleteMr. George Laird,
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for this clear report.
'The McCann's have rights, something they showed scant regard in relation to Gonçalo Amaral.'
Exactly.
Kind regards from the Netherlands.
Excellent blog George Laird
ReplyDeleteI will always remember that ver first televsion appearance where it showed the McCanns straight after their daughters dissapearance.
ReplyDeleteThe mother showed no emotion whatsover at the tv appeal and i remember saying to my partner that woman has something to hide, i have said that from day one and i still stand by that. She knows what happened to her daughter.
Any person that leaves children unattended for nay duration, esp in a foreign country, deserves no sympathy whatsoever, and these people should have been held accountable for that alone.
I'm glad that someone from the portugeese authorities has chosen to spaek out on this case and i commend him for doing so.
Too many people, esp in this country, are narrow minded and think the McCanns are innocent in all this. I for one do not think they are innocent and i strongly belive they known what has happended to their daughter and know more about her dissapearance.
Hats off to the detective that wrote this book and glad that the courts have allowed it to be published, unlike this namby pamby goverment of ours who are too bloody blinkered to see the real truth out there.
Well said George Laird. Can I also ask people who havn't yet done so, to google Gasper Statements. They were friends of the McCanns and have an astonishing story to tell.
ReplyDeleteThe Leicester police did not forward the Gasper's statement until six months after receiving it. The portugese police also never received the full financial disclosures or any medical records from the British aunthorities.Apparantly the McCanns had no credit cards!
Something stinks with this case.
An excellent piece of journalism George. I wish our newspapers were more upfront with this case instead of being afraid to write the facts. May the truth now be told, justice for Maddie.
ReplyDeleteA fantastic breakthrough and a spot on analysis

Oh dear those two links seek to blame Murat , a man whose house himself and his computer have been comprehensively checked then we have another link try to absolve the McCanns whose abduction story doesn't hold water .
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad attempt to blame others , so typical of Team McCann and their friends. Murat, Amaral , the PJ , the Portuguese , the press even the dogs, all have had the finger pointed at them, I suspect Mr Laird may be next for having the cheek to buck the McCann machine
awesome blog, do you have twitter or facebook? i will bookmark this page thanks. lina holzbauer
ReplyDeleteWell said George. Why the McCanns are not in prison eating porridge is astonishing. The dogs detected blood and cadaver in their apt. McCann dismissed the dogs YET the dogs have been correct 200 out of 200 times. Recently the dogs have been used in a case in Edinburgh. They detected 2 spots in the office where Miss Pilley worked and 3 spots in Gilroys car. He is on trial and Suzannes body has never been found. WHO is protecting the McCanns ? And WHY ?
