Dear All
In a court case anything can happen.
Whoever tells the best story can have a fair chance of winning or beating the rap.
As the Tommy Sheridan case rumbles on the feedback which is coming through in the MSM isn’t good for the Former MSP.
It reminds me of the epic line by Sydney Greenstreet in Casablanca:
“Might as well be frank, monsieur. It would take a miracle to get you out of Casablanca, and the Germans have outlawed miracles.”
Which at present seems to be what Tommy Sheridan needs, a miracle but the News of the World have outlawed miracles!
The court was sitting hearing a secret video tape which alleges that Tommy Sheridan said that he made the “biggest mistake of his life” by making a confession to political colleagues.
It is legal to collect evidence secretly if there is a reasonable belief on the part of the person that it was for the prevention of crime under the Data Protection Act 1998.
However, I doubt Sheridan’s best friend George McNeilage knew of that provision when he made the recording.
On the tape, the jury at the High Court in Glasgow was told the former leader of the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) was caught on film talking to his best friend George McNeilage about the party meeting where Sheridan claimed he visited a sex club in Manchester on two occasions.
Sheridan was identified on the film in court by SSP convener Colin Fox which begs the question, other than being an ordinary member of the public does he have any specialist qualifications in terms of being an expert witness in this type of technology.
I would suspect not.
A point Sheridan’s legal team will probably bring up as well as to whether this is a genuine recording.
The tape alleges that Sheridan says:
“They want me to come to a meeting to explain myself and this is where I make the big mistake. A f****** huge mistake. A humungous mistake. I got to the meeting. There’s 19 people sitting around a f****** circle, sitting on desks, sitting on chairs. The atmosphere you cut with a f****** knife, man. I then make the biggest mistake of my life by confessing something in front of 19 people. What am I doing confessing to these c****?”
Yes, it does make you wonder.
To show that politics is a hot and steamy affair, allegedly, Sheridan also accuses one of his colleagues of having an affair by sleeping with somebody’s husband.
Sleeping is putting it nice, he means getting shagging then going home to her husband.
In true Mission Impossible style, Sheridan’s best friend George McNeilage to put him at ease says:
“Do you want to check me for wires?”
To which Sheridan says:
“No I still trust you mate.”
In politics you cannot trust anyone or like anyone, they must always be outsiders to you, there are no comrades because politics is filled with petty self serving c***** to coin Sheridan’s phrase.
You would think Sheridan would have learned that lesson early.
George McNeilage was the best man to Tommy Sheridan at his wedding to Gail in June 2000 could be viewed in two ways, either an upstanding citizen or a rat.
So, what is he getting out of this? And why does he want to help ‘the enemy’ the News of the World?
The News of the World would destroy George McNeilage without a second thought if it would boost their circulation by one paper.
At the end of the movie Casablanca, ‘the goodies’ get forged documents and jump a plane to Lisbon.
The ‘hit’ show at the High Court is still running and Tommy Sheridan and his wife deny all charges against them.
Yours sincerely

ReplyDeleteThere's no point in fighting Rupert Murdoch. He can buy off most people.
Dear Tris
ReplyDeleteI sense you are not a fan of Rupert Murdoch.
You don't want to upset him do you?
As a blogger he might offer you a job.

The difference being of course that this isn't some OMG SHOCKING NEW REVELATION, but something that's been known for years and ADMITTED by the people involved, and which was also resolved years ago, which could have happened with Tommy as well. You make your own bed..
