It is a crying MacShane!
Denis MacShane is a former Labour minister and current MP.
He is in a spot bother, serious bother, in the form of the Metropolitan Police over expenses.
Is it serious, yes, the parliamentary investigation into a complaint has been suspended "until the question of possible criminal proceedings has been resolved".
So, it looks like Denis MacShane, MP for Rotherham might be joining the ‘Labour three’ to become a member of the ‘Labour Four’.
No one will be calling for freeing the ‘Labour Four’!
MacShane said:
"While I obviously regret this development I will of course co-operate fully with the police as I have with the commissioner. I will make no further comment."
And as fast as lightening, MacShane as been suspended by the Labour Party who confirmed it had:
"suspended Denis MacShane from the Parliamentary Labour Party and the whip pending the outcome of any investigation".
Short, sharp to the point and buried quickly like a mafia hit with the hole already dug in the desert.
MacShane joins former Labour MPs- Elliot Morley, David Chaytor and Jim Devine as political lepers.
So, what is all the fuzz about?
Well as the Commissioner had been investigating a series of claims made by Mr MacShane on his taxpayer-funded office expenses, he found MacShane claimed nearly £20,000 a year for an office based in the garage of his South Yorkshire home.
‘Doesn’t everyone have an office in there garage’ defence could be used here.
A dozen invoices to the Parliamentary authorities from the "European Policy Institute". Each bill was for "research and translation". The EPI was controlled by his brother, Edmund Matyjaszek
Doesn’t he use Babelfish, it is free!
The claim for eight laptop computers in three years could be put down to clumsy bastards who keep dropping them.
£125,000 over seven years!
Denis MacShane is a severe critic of the new expenses along with Glasgow champagne socialist Tom Harris and is thought to be the first MP to be referred to the police by the Parliamentary authorities.
It seems the ‘drawing a line’ under the expenses scandal at Westminster hasn't worked, in fact it seems business as usual.
The fact that Labour whip has been removed so quickly is a sign that the Labour Party are seeking to preserve the new birthing of the Labour Party with Red Ed at the helm.
The ‘new generation’ doesn’t want the ‘pretend fairytale’ to end and hope it will rub off on the voters.
So far however I haven’t seen a smoking gun to put Labour’s famous attack dog in the dog house.
I think he will walk but there will be a distinct whiff about the place.
