Dear All
Margo MacDonald wants a bill to allow assisted suicide in Scotland.
Unfortunately, Holyrood hasn’t killed this madness off but has allowed it to continue to their shame.
MacDonald suffers from Parkinson’s disease so she has a vested interest in this piece of legalisation going through.
The proposals which could allow assisted suicide in Scotland have their own specially-convened Holyrood committee.
Personally, such a bill should never be allowed to pass into law and I would go further and say that Margo MacDonald’s arse should be thrown out into the street at the next election.
She is a disgrace.
Her bill is called the End of Life Assistance Bill to that end anyone aged over 16 can request help to die.
In other words legalised killing or state sanctioned murder.
The criteria to request to die is that a person must be diagnosed as terminally ill or permanently physically incapacitated, and find life intolerable.
Quite right a campaign group has been set up to oppose the bill entitled Care Not Killing.
In MacDonald world which she probably envisages is like ‘Solent Green’ the movie, everyone turns up like going to the doctor or dentist and has a wonderful death with nice music and pretty pictures as a background.
Death isn’t dignified.
Consultation on MacDonald's Bill shows clear opposition to the proposals from members of the public, religious bodies and the medical profession.
People elect politicians to make their lives better not to sanction legalisation to kill them.
If Margo MacDonald wants to kill herself that is her choice but she shouldn’t be allowed to take others with her.
Come the Holyrood election 2011, voters should throw out her out with her bill, she is a crank.
Yours sincerely

That Woman is a potential mass murderer she is terrified of dying(stinking yellow coward)
ReplyDeleteand wants to kill as many people before her and with her and after she dies.
Relief from pain is absolutely nothing to do with it she prior to finding out she herself was ill(there is a god after all) did not give a toss for the terminally
ill.
and now the grim reaper has her in his sights she wants to have as much company as possible with her on her journey into the afterlife..
I had a dear friend die recently after a long and painful illness who fought it all the way and wanted to live every second they had left.
On this I disagree as I have believed for many a year that I should have the choice of not living in a living hell if my quality of life deteriates beyond my control. That's my choice and no one elses.
ReplyDeleteI am frequently entertained by this blog, and I often agree with you or sympathise strongly with your point of view. However I disagree strongly with you on this matter. Margo is being brave. I too want to choose the moment of my departure if I am stuck there doped to the eyeballs on morphine while some fucking awful cancer of flesh-eating bug or whatever eats me alive. If I am so disabled I cannot wipe my own arse or get up from a cot filled with my own excrement and vomit.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe in skypixies. Modern medicine has saved my life at least twice, and I am eternally grateful, but when that time comes it would be cruel to not let me go if I want to. I belong only to me. I want the right to die legislation enacted. Margo is right on this.

If a person wants to kill themselves that is their choice and people will do what they want to do.
MacDonald wants to rope the state into this, which is totally wrong.

Dear David
ReplyDeleteGlad you find the blog entertaining.
I also acknowledge that in some cases there will be people who are in very difficult circumstances.
However, it is not the role of state to assist people to kill themselves.
I would however concede that there needs to be a change in the law to protect family members who assist relatives to die.
I am quite sympathetic to their plight and would rather see a change in the law in that area.
I spent 20 years at uni meeting tons of medics; I never met one who signed up because they wanted to help people die.
The Hippocratic Oath
“I swear by Apollo, the healer, Asclepius, Hygieia, and Panacea, and I take to witness all the gods, all the goddesses, to keep according to my ability and my judgment, the following Oath and agreement:
To consider dear to me, as my parents, him who taught me this art; to live in common with him and, if necessary, to share my goods with him; To look upon his children as my own brothers, to teach them this art.
I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.
I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion.
But I will preserve the purity of my life and my arts.
I will not cut for stone, even for patients in whom the disease is manifest; I will leave this operation to be performed by practitioners, specialists in this art.
In every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing and all seduction and especially from the pleasures of love with women or with men, be they free or slaves.
All that may come to my knowledge in the exercise of my profession or in daily commerce with men, which ought not to be spread abroad, I will keep secret and will never reveal.
If I keep this oath faithfully, may I enjoy my life and practice my art, respected by all men and in all times; but if I swerve from it or violate it, may the reverse be my lot”.
Doctors take this oath to mean something.
As a society people expect doctors to live by their word.
I disagree strongly with your conclusion that life can be thrown away, whim or not.
Yours sincerely
