One of the ‘Portillo’ moments of the Westminster election was Jacqui Smith losing her seat in the House of Commons to Tory candidate Karen Lumley.
Nice to see that voters got that one right!
Smith resigned as home secretary in 2009 after it emerged she had claimed expenses for pornographic films watched by her husband.
And was strongly criticised for designating her sister's house in London as her "main home"!
That was about circa £100k in expenses.
Tories have now planted the flag in Redditch, Worcs with a majority of 5,821 on a swing of 9.2%.
As one of Blair’s babes from 1997, she was long overdue for the bullet.
Good call by the people.
