Do you know who is responsible for the deaths of heroin users by anthrax?
Politicians from all political parties right across the board!
These are the ones who stick slavishly to ‘Victorian’ values in an age where they don’t exist.
If drugs were legal, then contaminated heroin would never have killed the heroin users who died of anthrax.
There are many reasons for the state entering the drugs market via an NGO organisation.
1/ bankrupting the drugs market
2/ saving lives
3/ ploughing money into treatment courses
4/ helping people get a fresh start to rebuild their lives
5/ education
6/ minimising the risk of contaminated products reaching addicts
All of the above seems sensible but the roadblock to doing the right thing is politics.
Everyone wants to be seen to be tough on crime and tough on drugs but the truth is the drugs war is lost under the current strategy.
So, a new strategy is needed, one that is radical and up to date with the problem.
It maybe a new year but the values of the 18th century remain at least in public by politicians who strive towards staying within PC boundaries.
After all, they don’t want to lose their seats, it buys the food and pays the rent and ‘a person’s gotta eat right’?
Just say no, doesn’t work.
Maybe some politicians should take the leap of faith to help those who need help the most.
Isn’t that what politics is supposed to be all about, helping and saving lives?
