Joanna Lumley is named Briton of the Year, deservedly so!

Dear All

The Times has named Joanna Lumley as the Briton of the Year.

I have to agree.

Her campaign to support the Gurkhas was everything politics and politicians should be about, passionate about their cause.

So few actually are in reality!

Most are unwilling to stand up and be counted unless it conforms to the party line!

She stood up for people who had no voice and won.

Job done, she walked away.

Yours sincerely

I blogged on this subject last night, and not one single person has commented. Weird.

I think Joanna deserves the title. You describe what she did more eloquently than I did.... she did what needed to be done. Ok she used her celebrity to get it done, but why not?

She made Brown and his idiot immigration minister look really stupid. Which they are.

Dear Tris

What is surprising is the lack of acknowledgement beforehand of the special place that the Gurhkas have played in the defence of Britain and its dependencies over hundreds’ of years.

This is another example of superficial careerist people who have no substance and don’t care about others.

The Labour Government doesn’t believe in anything.

Agreed. I think she has played them well and mounted a serious but dignified campaign.

She gets my vote
