Alex Salmond more popular than Gordon Brown!

Dear All

Alex Salmond; the Scottish First Minister is considerably more popular in Scotland than either Gordon Brown or David Cameron, a BBC poll has suggested.

I suspect that popularity is down to the sheer hard work that Alex Salmond does on behalf of the people of Scotland and will continue to do, to get the very best deal for those living in Scotland.

His work rate is impressive by any standard.

A BBC poll, commissioned from ICM, found more than half questioned thought Alex Salmond was doing a "good" or "very good" job.

This means the message that the SNP is a 100% Public Service Party is getting through to ordinary people. Whether you are at the top of the tree or the bottom the SNP want to help you.

Not just a hand out but a hand up!

On the Labour front, only 37% believed Mr Brown was performing well as UK prime minister.

Have these people been on holiday?

Tory leader Mr Cameron fared badly, with only 21% thinking he would make a good prime minister, Scottish people still hate Tories and the curse of Thatcher hangs in the air like a bad smell.

The break down of the poll as follows when asked how good or bad a job of running Scotland they thought SNP leader Mr Salmond was doing as first minister, 12% said "very good", while 40% replied "good". 27% said he was neither good nor bad, while 12% opted for bad and 6% for very bad.

Gordon Brown comes out of the poll with nothing to be happy about 9% as very good and 28% as good, with 29% opting for neither good nor bad; 17% for bad and 16% for a very bad job.

In other words even in his own country he cannot win support of the people in a meaningful way.

The news for Alex Salmond is what could be reasonably expected but it shows that there is an incredible amount of work and effort require to ensure that the SNP reach out and make the case that they are working for the people to make their lives better and give them the opportunities that Labour has denied them..

Alex Salmond has every reason to be happy with this poll, half way through a Government under severe financial pressure and he still carries the support of the majority of Scotland.

Gordon Brown struggles to get loyalty even in his own Cabinet!

Yours sincerely
