Glasgow Labour Councillor George Ryan dies tragically at the age of 51; his family will be completely devastated, he was a City Councillor since 1995, I would like to offer my condolences to his family

Dear All

It is always sad when someone dies, Glasgow Labour councillor George Ryan has died suddenly at the very young age of 51.

His family, partner Linda, and three children, Christopher, Deborah and Sophie will be absolutely devastated at this moment in time; I like many who do a bit of politics will want to offer condolences to the family.

My dad passed away in his mid forties, so I know a bit of what the family is going through at present, I was still at primary school when my dad died.

Cllr Ryan represented the city's Shettleston ward and had served on the council since 1995 in many key positions.

He made a name for himself, and possibly could have gone on to be an MSP or even an MP, regardless of politics, he stood out in the Labour administration.

City Council leader Gordon Matheson said:

"The people of Shettleston have lost a powerful champion and the city has lost a fighter for social justice."

Matheson added:

"George was a highly respected and experienced Labour councillor and trade union activist, as well as holding down a professional career in health and safety. He was astute, warm and popular and was a big and influential figure in the chambers. His political background made him ideally suited to latterly lead on personnel matters within the council, although he held many senior positions over the years, including being in charge of economic development at the time we introduced the living wage and the Commonwealth Apprenticeship programme. These initiatives demonstrated his socialist values."

I wasn't going to blog over the next few days, as I am standing for election as Glasgow Councillor myself.

To his family I offer my condolences for their sad loss, I am truly sorry for you.

Yours sincerely

  1. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, such as you wrote the guide in it or something.
I believe that you simply could do with a few % to drive
the message house a bit, however instead of that,
this is excellent blog. A great read. I will
    certainly be back.
