Glasgow University’s Gerry McCann ducks opportunity for free investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, hardly impressive stuff

Dear All

Fresh from their defeat in a Lisbon Court against trying to gag Gonçalo Amaral, Team McCann faces a new blow.

The public isn’t digging into their pockets for the McCann’s anymore.

The Find Madeleine Fund has dwindled from £2million to £300,000, they say that by Spring they will run out of cash.

Kate McCann said:

"It will be just me and Gerry left looking for her."

That will be unusual for them since on the night that Madeleine McCann went missing, they didn’t search for her themselves.

Is Glasgow University medic Gerry McCann seriously going to have a go playing detective?

The McCann’s like to portray the image that they have searched tirelessly for Madeleine on the night of the search, they failed the test.

Other people have done the real work while they have got on with their lives in Rothley.

But Kate yesterday admitted that for the first time she fears they may never find her.

The latest gimmick in their ‘search’ is to launch an online petition asking the public to back them and demand the British and Portuguese governments do more to find Madeleine.

Again other people doing the real work on the ground, not them.

When are they going to do on the ground searching?

As well as asking the public for money, they have sent out "begging letters" to sponsors, including author JK Rowling, tycoon Richard Branson, comic Jack Dee and other high-profile celebrities asking them to contribute to the fund.

When faced with the prospect that they might have to work on the ground themselves, Kate McCann said:

"When the money runs out we will not be able to pay the investigators helping us to find Madeleine. It will be just me and Gerry left looking for her. I just can't contemplate that."

Gerry McCann said:

"No parent would ever give up on their child”.

Would they wander off and leave three under 5 year old children alone in an unlocked apartment?

Perhaps Team McCann should show some commitment publicly by answering in detail the answers to the 48 questions put to Kate McCann by the Portuguese Police.

And when are the McCann’s going to call for the Portuguese Police to reopen the case instead of a review?

Finally bear this in mind the latest McCann media stunt fails to mention is that the McCann couple have somehow missed the statutory legal deadlines to oppose to the Portuguese Public Ministry process archival and to apply (formulate a petition for) for the reopening of the instruction (finding of facts) pertaining to the investigative proceedings, as it was their legal right; clearly stated in the archival dispatch.

Maybe they can explain why?

Could it be they want to shut the Portuguese Police out?

Yours sincerely

  1. I signed the McCann's online petition calling for a review, lastnight. I wrote that they should ask for the case to be reopened, not reviewed, and that Kate McCann should answer the 48 questions.

Comments appeared alongside many others writing similar comments. Five minutes later they were changed to no comments, and annonymous.

most strange. If they were serious they would

    A) Petition No10 instead
    B) just ask the PJ to reopen the case, as is their right.

  2. Good post.

They left 3 small children in a strange room in the strange country so that they could go out drinking with their mates.

Sorry, I'm not buying any of this rubbish.

Then they want people to put their hands in their pockets.

These people sicken me. If they had been a couple of neds who'd been in Spain, not Portugal, and had been eating kebabs and chips, and not fillet mignon, they'd be doing 20 each

  3. Dear Tris

The McCann's in my opinion should have served prison sentences for abandonment.

    You rightly say:

"If they had been a couple of neds who'd been in Spain, not Portugal, and had been eating kebabs and chips, and not fillet mignon, they'd be doing 20 each".

They call for a review, they do not call for the case to be reopened.

    Yours sincerely

  6. Questions have to be asked about the motives of the McCanns and their friends!

Anyone who has been following this case (and read the translated files) these past few years knows that the McCanns WOULD have been legally obliged to go back to Portugal, if they were requested. We also know that the McCanns friends, the Tapas 7, would NOT have been legally obliged to return. What I want to know is, what were all these Tapas 7 people doing that was far more important than taking part in an official police reconstruction? A reconstruction about events leading up to an alleged abduction. An alleged abduction of a 3-year-old chid! Not just any child! It was a child from their holiday group. A child of the group of family and friends who went on holiday together. Why are the McCanns still friends with these people? Why do they trust these people 100%? They told Jane Hill in an interview they trusted their friends 100%. They trust the people who could not or would not attend and assist the Portuguese police with their official investigation into the disappearance of their child they claim has been abducted. Why are the McCanns not suing those people? Suing them for causing a hindrance in the official investigation and search for their child they claim has been abducted by paedophiles. Why are they not suing them for harming the official police investigation? Why are they not suing them for actions that are detrimental in the official search and investigation for their child they claim is missing? Why do the McC's expect the public around the world to donate and look for their child when their friends that were on holiday with them did not make attending an official police reconstruction their priority!
Imo £££'s have been spent looking for legal loopholes. Legal loopholes that gave the legally obliged to attend Arguidos a going through the motions to hide behind. The going through the motions of:

Yes we will comply with everything of course we will attend. When do you want us? What date? What time? Ok we'll sort it out. However knowing all the time that the other crucial participants who were NOT legally obliged to attend would NOT be going and imo it was all just another PR charade! They had a chance to prove their innocence by taking part in an official reconstruction. Their friends had the chance to prove the innocence of the McCanns. Neither parties took the chance to prove the McCanns innocence and because of that the main damaged parties were the McCann Arguidos. Who's fault was that? *IIRC they still have the chance to prove their innocence. They and their friends could all agree to go back and take part in an offical reconstruction. By agreeing to do this IIRC the case would be re-opened.

Imo the i-petition is just another tool to be used as a filler in the McMedia Manipulation Circus. Imo it just another PR charade!

Personally my opinion is they have very little support from the public.

All of the above is just the opinion of an ill-informed bystander.

*Open Letter - Doubts on the McCann Process

"The McCanns could have stopped the archival at any moment up to the end of the deadlines, or even force the reopening of the process now, if for example they requested to do the legal reconstruction with their friends, or if Kate McCann answered the 48 questions that were never answered, or if any of their Tapas friends requested to do new statements, etc.. Those would be evidences that would oblige the Public Ministry to reopen the process - which means that if the McCanns really wanted the process and the legal investigation into the disappearance [presumed death] of their daughter to continue, they could do it."

  9. KATE MCCANN CRITICISES THERESA MAY

DISTRESSED: Kate McCann has criticised the Home Secretary
    Wednesday November 10,2010
By Ann Widdecombe KATE McCann accuses Theresa May of doing too little to find her missing daughter.

Her emotion is understandable but her attack on the Home Secretary is misplaced.

The ball is firmly in the court of the Portuguese authorities, not the British ones.

    FOLLOW THE EXPRESS ON TWITTER!

Our politicians can comment and make representations but they cannot overrule the decisions of the Portuguese, who in turn have said they will act if new evidence is produced.

The Government is not, as Kate McCann puts it, giving up on Madeleine but rather is accepting its limitations over a crime that happened in another country and which is subject to another jurisdiction. Mrs May deserves credit for meeting these distressed parents, not criticism for making her own judgments about what she should then do.

I think Ann Widdecombe has said what the present HS cannot directly say to the UK public. It is clear that the British Govt cannot do anything because Portugal retain primacy. I wish Ann Widdecombe had mentioned that they could re-open the case by agreeing to now do an official reconstruction or KM could answer the 48 questions. Another good article from the Express.

The Express have now informed the UK public that the McCanns could instruct their lawyer to send a letter to the Portuguese authorities and easily get the case re-opened by agreeing to now do the official reconstruction that was previously declined by the McCanns and friends. The Express have also made it clear to the UK public that the Govt cannot demand that Portugal do what the McCanns demand. Well done! Slowly info is coming out. The Express who paid out 550k to the McCanns!

  12. What a shame the money is running out, am not surprised if they're going to use it on paying for their mortgage, silly libel cases and on other evidence to help find their daughter to only dismiss it. The fund was set up to find Madeline not for them to waste. Feel so sorry for those who donated to help find Madeline, the McCanns have a lot to answer for but the whole group should of been charged with neglect and abandonment

  13. of course the money must be pouring in now to their Limited Company not a charitable fund! The charade goes on now spearheaded by the Tories.....when the Mccanns are die hard Labourites
